New Blue Heeler Owners
So you just got your adorable, and very hyperactive Blue Heeler home. "What do I do Now?
The first thing you want to do is take lots of pictures. Nothing beats having pictures of your precious Blue Heeler to look back on. It would be a good idea to keep a scrapbook, or photo album of all your favorite photos taken of your Australian Cattle Dog.
The next thing you want to do, especially if you have a puppy is to keep it entertained, and it's mind busy. Australian Cattle Dogs are very intelligent, and get bored very easily. Make sure to get lots of puppy toys for it to play with. One thing you might want to focus on is getting plenty of puppy chewy toys. Blue Heelers love to chew, especially if they are bored.
Unless you want a wild child, it is advisable to begin training your puppy. Keep it short and sweet. A long training session, and your ACD will soon get restless. Try to keep it under 10 minutes. Several 5 minute training sessions are a good idea. Not just for Blue Heelers, but for most dogs.
Keep your Australian Cattle Dog active! These dogs have enormous amounts of energy. They will run, and run, and run. Do not over do it though, as Australian Cattle Dogs have been known to be a bit full hardy at times and can/will injure themselves if not looked after. Also keep a close eye on their legs. If they begin limping, playtime is over. Take a break, and let them rest.
Be sure to give your new Blue Heeler plenty of love and attention. They will go crazy without it and love you more for it.
The rewards of owning raising a Blue Heeler are astronomical. You will have a best friend for several more years to come. Australian Cattle Dogs are loveable, enjoyable, talented, and extremely intelligent pets.
You will not want to adopt any other type of dog again.
